Open Stage

Made possible by
The Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation

Indy Movement Arts is so thrilled to announce Open Stage, a new opportunity for local dance makers made possible by the Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation.  Through Open Stage, we will produce new and experimental work by local dance makers in our home at the Basile Opera Center.  Through this program, selected artists will not have to pay a dime in venue rental fees, will receive a $250 stipend, and keep 100% of ticket proceeds.

Open Stage Performance

February 20th & 21st
Doors | 6:30 PM
Performance | 7:00-9:00PM
The Basile Opera Center

Join us for our first Open Stage performance of 2026 on February 20th & 21st in our home at The Basile Opera Center. The evening will feature and opening performance, Memory Through Rhythm - A James Brown Tribute, by Jelani Davis, followed by Stained, Staining, presented by André Williams and Relevations Dance Theatre.

Stained, Staining explores how relationships leave marks on us—how closeness imprints, fractures, and refracts through the body over time. Through powerful physical storytelling, shifting duets, and evolving ensemble worlds, the work moves through tension, tenderness, rupture, and reconciliation—revealing the residue we carry and the beauty we become in the aftermath.

Unfolding in two parts, this evening of movement opens with works that immerse the audience in the world of Stained, Staining. Following intermission, the epic itself takes the stage. Together, the evening invites audiences into a stained-glass world where connection is both sacred and complicated—and every touch leaves a trace.

Memory Through Rhythm - A James Brown Tribute by Jelani Davis, merges American History with music and dance in the style of James Brown. This solo performance by is a recreation of one of the most significant nights in the city of Boston, Massachusetts and in the U.S. Travel back in time to April 5th, 1968 as Jelani's performance launches us into a rhythmically powerful experience.

The doors will open at 6:30pm and the performance will begin at 7:00pm. The Basile Opera Center is located at 4011 N. Pennsylvania Street, 46205. Please park along Pennsylvania Street and enter the building via the double doors that face Pennsylvania. You will see our DANCE & IMAC signs in the windows.

Open Stage is made possible by the Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation and presented by Indy Movement Arts Collective in collaboration with Indy Convergence and the Indianapolis Opera.
