Madam Walker Legacy Center
The Neon Black Festival was the first Black dance festival in Indianapolis. This one-of-a-kind event was hosted by Indianapolis Movement Arts Collective and made great by 10 local performing companies led by artists of color: Neon Black was joyful, powerful, excellent.

Indy Dance Exchange Culminating Performance

We broke ground for the future of dance and creative expression in Indianapolis. The culminating performance of the inaugural 2024 Indy Dance Exchange featured visiting artists from Boulder, Chicago and New York City as well as local creators.

An Evening of Belly Dance featuring the amazing Amy Sigil (California), Brittney Laleh Banaei (Colorado), and dancers from all over the Midwest. Amy Sigil is a mover, coach, team builder and choreographer from Nothern California. Brittney Laleh Banaei is an Iranian-American dancer, scholar, bodyworker, and educator. ​

When Walking Becomes Dancing was an Informal Showing of the Somatic Roots of Creativity Mentorship Program. This program brought people of all walks of life and levels of dance experience together to explore and expand their own capacity to move, connect and create through the body. Lani Weissbach and workshop participants shared some of the somatic dance/movement processes that were explored in this four-workshop series.

Indy turned out for an evening of performances by IMAC students and teachers AND local dancers and dance organizations in our home at The Basile Opera Center. Guest performers included: Austin ""Sirlimitless"" Day, MUSOU BLACK, New Industry Dance (South Bend), Indy Bollywood, Circle City Fire, & Allure Dance & Fitness Studio. It was an incredible evening of DANCE & MOVEment in support of our small, but mighty organization ​

The Crushing Weight of Absence

The Crushing Weight of Absence is a work in progress solo dance piece by Andrea Garay that dialogues with the concept of absence in three different levels: what is not there, what has never been there, and with the absence left by loss in distinct ways. Andrea Garay is a Mexican performing artist and choreographer, with a formal education in contemporary dance and a huge interest in movement.​​

Indy Movement Arts and Liz Wray presented an evening of dance featuring belly dancers from all over the Midwest, and starring KAMRAH, Chicago's first trans masculine belly dancer and viral TikTok Star with over 3 million views! This show was body positive and inclusive of all genders, ages, and races. This engagement was supported by Arts Midwest.​

Indy Movement Arts and Big Car Collaborative presented an innovative evening of performance, performance art, and kinetic creation. Kelvin Burzon and Jenny Delfuego premiered new work as a part of the Indy Movement Arts Process/Progress residency, accompanied by original works from Indy Movement Arts dance-makers, Bethany Bak and Lauren Curry.

Vangeline performed a new Butoh work, Eternity 123. Eternity 123 was presented in partnership with Big Car Collaborative and was part of the Spirit & Place Festival. Vangeline is a teacher, dancer, and choreographer specializing in Japanese butoh. She is the artistic director of the Vangeline Theater/New York Butoh Institute (New York).​

An evening of one-night-only performances by local performing artists, celebrating winter. Within the windows of the Basile Opera Center, each artist created their own poetic interpretation of winter, incorporating voice, movement, dance and/or theater. Attendees strolled around the outside of the building and watched as each of the unique winter worlds came to life. ​

Gerry Trentham
An OPEN Indy Performance

District Theatre
Gerry Trentham presented Yellow Scale, a 40-minute solo from his award-winning work, Four Mad Humours. Local dance theater artist Lani Weissbach presented The Truth About Mr. Duffy, performed by Lukas Schooler of NoExit Performance and Tanner Hronek, previously with Dance Kaleidoscope. The Indianapolis community will performed COMMUTE, an original work created by Gerry during his residency.
