Here Is What Is
Introduction that plays while Bethany, Lani, & Lauren make their way to the stage.
“Hello! We're all staff here at Indy Movement Arts. Here at Indy Movement Arts, we have a participatory approach to dance. In plain English, you're all in our cast starting now. It's going to be simple. It's going to be fun! We'll demonstrate a movement, and you just reflect it back to us the way that feels best to you. As people who have been dancing our whole lives, trust us, we know that moving feels good. But what feels even better is moving with a bunch of people. So don't be too cool, and don't be nervous, we'll show you what to do.”
Movement Score - Lauren will talk us through the movement score three times. Lani and Bethany will demonstrate the movements. The movement score can be done standing or seated.
We begin by tracing the contours of the body, beginning at the feet and working our way up to the head.
Our head floats up towards the sky, and we see what we see.
The head floats back to neural and we begin to make a circle around ourselves. The gaze is soft and we see what we see. If you are seated, twist the torso as far as you can go to the right and then as far as you can go to the left.
We make a second circle around ourselves and this time the arms begin to float and fall, float and fall, and float and fall. (3 times with the arms floating and falling). Again, if are seated, twist the torse as far as you can go to the right and as far as you can go to the left, with the arms floating and falling as you twist.
We arrive back to neutral and then the arms extend out and away from the body (far reach) and then we pull everything back to center, and we reach out and away and then pull everything back to center, and one more time we reach out stretching as far as we can go in each direction and pull the energy back to the center of our bodies.
We strike our thighs with our hands, and the arms extend forward and away from the body after the strike. Then our right arm folds to tap the left shoulder and the left arm folds to tap the right shoulder. (very percussive)
We inhale and our hands extend away from each other then we clasp our hands in front of our heart, and we begin to shake the hands. We keep shaking, and shaking, and shaking. Then, release. And we shimmer. The whole-body shimmering, our arms slowly lower and our body returns to neutral.
Pause.
Begin again.
